Reindogs at Baptist Hospital?? Empty Reindogs at Baptist Hospital??

Post  Sara Gubala Tue Nov 01, 2011 2:27 pm

Hello Everyone:

Kennedy and I met Carolyn and Lili at Baptist yesterday, the dogs wore their costumes and got a lot of smiles and love. Kennedy was rewarded with popcorn that we bought in the lobby and shared as I was so proud of my little Raggedy Ann for keeping her costume on and not eating it Smile

I had an idea on the way to the hospital yesterday that I shared with Vicki and also with Sarah (Child Life Specialist on the pedi floor), my idea was to have several of our dogs visit in December on the same day as the Paws 4 Love "Reindogs" and maybe even have someone dress up as Santa. Vicki and Sarah LOVED the idea and Vicki was going to check on the Santa suit as she though the hospital might have one. Anyway, after my visits, we talked and she thought that tentatively we might plan for something like this on Tuesday, December 6 to coordinate with Wasail (sp?) that they do at the hospital. What this would require would be purchasing reindeer antlers for our pups. I am going to see if the new Petsmart has them in and if so I am going to ask Bill (Store Manager) if he might cut as a deal on them or "loan" us some for the event, I think I already have a set for Kennedy from last year but I will have to check my Christmas stuff. The hospital could possibly advertise the Reindogs for us and we could spread out and visit several floors that day as a group. Would anyone want to do this? I know Carolyn said she and Lili would be interested. Please let me know if this is something others would want to do so I could talk to Vicki and get a clear data and time for this event as well as look into antlers for our bunch.

1. Bruce and I would love to do this.
2. When you talk with the manager, tell him that we are non-profit and I will send you the tax deferred number. If he will give them to us he can use it as a donation write-off.
3. Timing will be important for some who are working 8-5 or teaching. What time will this dog event be?

As so many are not reading the forum, I will put this out on the e-mail group. MAYBE some will respond to this.

Darla and Lyvone: you need to get your TB test so you can go.
I'll see if we can get a group from this area headed in to Beaumont. It really isn't that far.

Hey Everyone:

I talked to Vicki today and we decided that the event will be Tuesday, December 6 from 2-4pm. Vicki is working on getting a Santa suit and lining up a volunteer to be Santa. We are contemplating doing pics with the dogs that day too, Vicki and I need to know who would like to come as she wants to advertise this to the units but we really want to have enough dogs to that. I know that this is not the optimal time of year as many have work parties, school stuff, not to mention work. the reason I scheduled this during the day was so Vicki and Barbara could help us, if this works well, we can try again next year in the evening when more people could likely come but I wanted to have some hospital staff available in case there were issues. Vicki is going to let PR know, we are hoping maybe to get some media coverage for the event. I would love it if dogs could wear jingle bells or antlers. Please e-mail, facebook or call me if you can participate so I can add you to the list.

Mae and I would love to do this!! Don't know how long she will keep antlers on, but if we have them ahead of time, maybe I can condition her.

Does anyone else want to participate in Reindogs on Tuesday, December 6 from 2-4pm at Baptist Hospital? Please let me know so that I can get a list to Vicki, here is who I have so far:

Sara & Kennedy
Jolyn & Lilah
Carolyn & Lili
JoAnn & Bruce
Denise & Mae

I would LOVE to have 2-3 more teams to join us so that Vicki can spread us out in the hospital and spread some cheer to the patients. Please let me know if you can come!! If you don't want reindeer antlers on your pup, put jingle bells on him/her or something red.
