Nursing Home Summer Social

Traditionally every August those of us who visit nursing homes offer to host a Summer Ice Cream Social for residents of the nursing home we serve AND invite other Paws teams to come to assist us and to visit our residents.

The Social consists of working with the activity director to set a time in the afternoon or evening when you, your pet, and your friends in Paws can come to the facility and bring Ice Cream and cookies. This year you might want to change it a bit and bring Ice Cream Floats----Orange crush/ Strawberry Crush/ Root Beer and a couple of scoops of ice cream. Usually the nursing home will provide the napkins and cups or bowls while we provide the ice cream and drinks.

Be sure to ask if you need to get diet drinks and no sugar ice cream. Keep your receipts and turn in to Janice for reimbursement.

The more Paws teams you can get there the more excitement. We had five teams at Liberty and the folks were more excited about the dogs than about the ice cream.

Please Let me know about your plans. Coordinators work with the folks in your area to do the planning and getting as many there as you can. Late afternoons or evenings (since supper is so early) may help working handlers make your events. We will post a schedule of Ice Cream socials on this site and on the forum. Coordinators be sure to contact all the folks in your area, use your membership list on the CD to get the contact info. This is a great time and all will enjoy.
