The BIG DAY for Paws4Love Ice Cream Party at Village Creek Nursing Home has finally arrived. Cathy called Rent-a-Child and went and picked up Elizabeth who is 9. They went to Wal-Mart and bought the Ice cream, toppings & spoons. They got there early and set up the goodies. Gypsy’s Dad put her in his truck wearing her green bandana and brought her to Village Creek.
Before they got there, Mae arrived pulling Denice and Bailey showed up pulling Gina. Bailey had great energy and enjoyed everything she encountered. Lots of people enjoyed petting her. Mae was a bit nervous and not crazy about the other dogs but LOVED the people. She showed her nervousness by giving a rousing BARK ! every once in awhile if Gypsy would get too close. All the people who heard this were not scared, but rather amused as her benign appearance belies a BIG NOISE.
It was actually endearing and nobody complained! Mae is sweet and a real “people” dog.
Gypsy was a bit nervous riding in her father’s truck but she perked up the minute she hit the front door.(She remem- bered her previous experiences.) It was as if she said “I’m here, let the party begin!”
It was rather chaotic with all the helpers scooping flavors and taking orders. Gina’s Mom and Mom’s friend were there to help us also. There really weren’t that many patients who showed up and we were disappointed the nurses did not bring out many people.
Elizabeth and Cathy took Gypsy down the hall and met 3 nice ladies who loved petting Gypsy and Elizabeth ran to fill their ice cream orders. It was worth the trip and Gypsy got a couple of treats too.
Then we lined up all the folks we could get in a photo with the other 2 dogs. Got 2 nice shots, got waivers signed and hope they come out good for the paper. Clean up went fast, thank yous all around, and a good time was had by all. (Except Mae still does not like Gypsy.) We all agreed they would probably do fine without leashes in a yard together, rather than protecting their Mamas!
