READ children as teachers
Yesterday Rhonda and James shadowed Holly and me during our READ session at school. When I picked each child up, I told her/him that there would be two adults with us and asked each child if he/she would teach the two how we did READ so they would know what to do when they got their assignments. (Both children are fair readers, but they lack a lot of self-confidence in their reading, and one is particularly shy.) Both grabbed hold of Holly's leash, stood up straight with shoulders thrown back. Each proceeded to explain what we did and then settled down with Holly on her pillow and read for us--all of us.
I asked the boy what did he like about Reading to Holly. "Because she listens to me when I read." and as he started speaking Holly, who was standing right beside him, gave him her total attention. She knew he was talking about her.
